A Morn for Life

“A Morn for Life” forms the second movement of Wyers’ The Lips of the Sky, a choral cycle scored for SATB choir and string orchestra around the theme of twilight. Six movements follow the arc of the sun’s ascent, crossing the sky and falling into twilight, serving as a metaphor for humankind’s cycle of life. “Tis a Morn for Life” is brilliantly optimistic and energetic, set within the cycle as the first moment of awakening after deep sleep. It serves as a clarion call to wake into life’s challenges while remembering to enjoy everyday pleasures and blessings. Singers are encouraged to bring bouyant, resonant sounds with confident phrasing and joyful faces and hearts.
